Record-breaking crowd flocks to Việt Nam’s first Golden Autumn Fair on opening day

The first day of Việt Nam’s Golden Autumn Fair 2025 saw record-breaking crowds as thousands of visitors poured into the Việt Nam National Exhibition Centre in Đông Anh Commune, marking a lively start for the country’s newest and largest trade and cultural event.

Officially inaugurated the night before by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, the fair opened its doors to the public on the morning of October 26. Within hours, exhibition halls and outdoor spaces were packed with shoppers and families eager to experience the vibrant displays and activities.

“This weekend, after hearing so much about the Golden Autumn Fair on the news, I decided to bring my children to explore and shop,” Nguyễn Thị Thủy from Mê Linh Commune, Hà Nội, told congthuong.vn.

“I always prefer green, safe and healthy products for my family.”

Similarly, Nguyễn Xuân Huy from Hoài Đức Commune said he was impressed by the fair’s modern and professional organisation.

“It’s great that the Government has created a platform where people can see quality products and learn about production models from provinces across the country,” he said.

“In his opening speech, the PM mentioned the four seasonal fairs: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, to boost domestic consumption. I think it is truly meaningful.”

Businesses welcome new opportunities

For participating businesses, the fair provides a valuable platform to connect with consumers and expand market reach.

Lê Ngọc Anh, director of Lê Gia Food and Trading Service Co., Ltd. from Thanh Hóa Province, said his company brought its five-star OCOP-certified fish sauce and other seafood specialities to the fair.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase our traditional products and share the story behind them,” he said.

“We also hope to establish new export partnerships through trade promotion sessions organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.”

Nguyễn Thị Hạnh, director of SH Trading Co., Ltd., noted the strong turnout and professional organisation.

“We hope our Huế-made áo dài and local handicrafts will reach more customers through events like this,” she said.

From the cooperative sector, Lê Thịnh, director of Thuy Thuat Tea Cooperative in Thái Nguyen Province, said the fair helped cooperatives connect with consumers and learn from one another.

“This event not only promotes our tea brand but also allows us to exchange experiences in branding and sustainable production,” he said.

Beyond shopping, visitors are immersing themselves in a rich mix of cultural and culinary experiences.

The fair features regional delicacies, art performances and exhibitions from 34 provinces and cities, celebrating Việt Nam’s creative and cultural diversity.

With the theme “Connecting People with Production and Business”, the fair is both a national and international-scale event that honours Vietnamese intelligence and craftsmanship while promoting domestic consumption and investment.

According to the organisers, the Golden Autumn Fair 2025 is expected to welcome up to 500,000 visitors per day, making it one of the most ambitious trade and cultural events ever held in Việt Nam.

More than a trade showcase, the fair also serves as a platform for businesses to strengthen international integration, exchange expertise and adopt new technologies in digital transformation, green growth and circular economy development.

As the first of its kind, the Golden Autumn Fair 2025 has already set a strong precedent, not only as a marketplace but as a symbol of innovation, connection and pride in Vietnamese products. — BIZHUB/VNS

Việt Nam, US issue joint statement on reciprocal trade agreement

Việt Nam and the US on Sunday issued a joint statement outlining a framework for an agreement on reciprocal, fair and balanced trade.

The statement was released on the occasion of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính attending the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The agreement on reciprocal, fair and balanced trade will build upon the longstanding economic relationship between the two countries, including the US-Việt Nam Bilateral Trade Agreement signed in 2000, which entered into force in 2001.

According to the joint statement, Việt Nam will provide preferential market access for substantially all US industrial and agricultural exports to Việt Nam.

The US will maintain at 20 per cent the reciprocal tariffs, as outlined in Executive Order 14257 of April 2, 2025, as amended, on originating goods of Việt Nam, and will also identify products from the list set out in Annex III to Executive Order 14346 of September 5, 2025, Potential Tariff Adjustments for Aligned Partners, to receive a zero per cent reciprocal tariff rate.

The US and Việt Nam will work constructively to address both countries’ interests in non-tariff barriers affecting bilateral trade in priority areas.

Việt Nam has agreed to address many such barriers, including accepting vehicles built to US motor vehicle safety and emissions standards, addressing import licences for US medical devices, streamlining regulatory requirements and approvals for US pharmaceutical products, fully implementing Việt Nam’s obligations under certain international intellectual property treaties to which it is a party, and addressing US concerns with conformity assessment procedures.

The US and Việt Nam have also committed to address and prevent barriers to US agricultural products in the Vietnamese market, including with regard to US regulatory oversight and acceptance of currently agreed certificates issued by US regulatory authorities.

Under the agreement, Vietnam Airlines has agreed to purchase 50 aircraft from Boeing, worth more than US$8 billion.

Vietnamese companies have signed 20 memorandums of understanding with US companies to purchase US agricultural commodities, with a total estimated value of over US$2.9 billion.

In the coming weeks, the US and Việt Nam will work to finalise the agreement, prepare it for signature and undertake domestic formalities in advance of it entering into force. — VNS

Pepper industry holds firm amid global supply crunch

Việt Nam’s pepper sector has maintained its leading global position despite sharp price swings over the past year, driven by supply shortages and higher logistics costs.

Việt Nam exported about 188,000 tonnes of pepper worth US$1.27 billion in the first nine months of 2025, down 6.3 per cent in volume but up 28.7 per cent in value year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The average export price reached $6,774 per tonne, up 37 per cent from 2024.

The strong export performance came despite a volatile year for global pepper markets.

According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), domestic prices doubled or even tripled in 2024, peaking at VNĐ180,000 per kilo ($6.92) – the highest level in a decade.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said average prices rose 70 per cent in the first half of 2024, driven by global supply shortages as major producers like Việt Nam, Brazil, India and Indonesia all suffered 10-20 per cent output declines due to extreme weather.

Disruptions in the Red Sea and Suez Canal further raised logistics costs, while global consumption continued to grow 3-4 per cent annually, especially in India, the Middle East and Europe.

Việt Nam remains the world’s top supplier, accounting for 35-40 per cent of output and over half of export value. Despite a smaller cultivation area of about 110,500 hectares, productivity has nearly doubled the global average, sustaining output at around 200,000 tonnes in 2024.

In 2025, total production is projected to drop to 180,000 tonnes under the impact of El Nino.

Another factor keeping prices high is a US trade policy that imposes a 40 per cent tariff on goods shipped through third countries, prompting Vietnamese exporters to reduce imports of raw pepper from Brazil and buy more from local farmers instead.

Nguyễn Đức Dũng, deputy general director of the Vietnam Commodity Exchange, said pepper prices were likely to stay around VNĐ150,000–151,000 per kilo until year-end and could approach VNĐ155,000 if supply tightens further.

However, a sharp rally like mid-2024 was unlikely to return as speculative funds had shifted to other commodities such as coffee.

Although pepper prices remained high, the industry still faced challenges from a strong US dollar, tight monetary policies and stricter quality standards from the EU and US, which would raise costs and narrow profit margins.

Analysts say the current high-price period offers a chance for Việt Nam’s pepper sector to upgrade processing, diversify export markets and build a stronger national brand for long-term growth. — VNS
