Last week, Project Director of the Confederation of Norwegian Businesses (NHO) Magnus Ruderaas concluded his hectic but effective working visit to Vietnam.

He joined Commercial Counsellor at the Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi in a meeting with the Secretary of the Party Committee of Khanh Hoa Province Nguyen Hai Hinh; together with colleagues from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) HCMC delivered a training workshop for trainers on marine aquaculture in Ho Chi Minh City; and co-chaired the ASEAN Workshop on Engaging Employers in Apprenticeship and other Work-based training opportunities in Hanoi. He had a very informative and interesting presentation on Norway’s model of the Government working with industries and businesses in providing vocational training to workers particularly in aquaculture sector.

The Government of Norway, through NHO, has been supporting the development of skilled workers for Vietnam’s aquaculture industry through a cooperation program with VCCI-HCM. Despite the Covid-19, since 2019, the program has mobilized a group of 12 leading experts from Norwegian and Vietnamese enterprises in Vietnam to work on a mechanism to build skilled workers for Vietnam’s aquaculture industry at both national and provincial levels. In 2022, 100 aquaculture farmers and workers have been trained.
