On the afternoon of September 9, the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade and the Swedish business delegation held a working session with the Hai Phong Logistics Association. The meeting focused on trade exchanges with Gothenburg Port and Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Sweden in areas such as investment, commerce, and logistics services.
Discussions particularly highlighted establishing direct sea routes between Gothenburg Port and Hai Phong’s port system; promoting investment in green logistics infrastructure, distribution centers, and export–import support services; and sharing international best practices in port management, supply chain optimization, and high-quality workforce training.
Mr. Pham Tuan Hai, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized that Hai Phong is currently the only locality in Vietnam with all six modes of transportation: maritime, road, rail, air, inland waterways, and dedicated pipelines. The city is oriented to develop into an international logistics hub for the Northern Coastal Region and ASEAN.
He highly valued the cooperation with Gothenburg Port and the Swedish business community in recent times, affirming the Department’s commitment to supporting the Hai Phong Logistics Association and international partners in attracting investment and fostering a sustainable, modern logistics ecosystem.
Mr. Jacob Minnhagen, representative of Gothenburg Port (Sweden), expressed his strong impression of Hai Phong’s development potential and looked forward to the early establishment of direct maritime routes between the two ports.
He added that Gothenburg Port is Sweden’s trade gateway, handling about 30% of the country’s import–export cargo. With more than 15,000 vessel calls per year and connections to over 150 global ports, he is optimistic about creating a direct shipping route to Hai Phong, one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic logistics centers.
“We believe that connecting the two ports will not only boost bilateral trade but also help businesses on both sides reduce logistics costs and improve supply chain efficiency,” Mr. Minnhagen affirmed.
Prepared for Integration and Sustainable Development
Mr. Tran Tien Dung, Chairman of the Hai Phong Logistics Association, speaking on behalf of the local logistics business community, shared that Hai Phong enterprises are actively undergoing digital transformation, optimizing operations, and moving toward green logistics models. Connecting with Gothenburg Port would mark a breakthrough in expanding sea transport networks to Europe and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s logistics sector on the global market.
The Association hopes the city will facilitate the creation of an integrated multimodal logistics center to serve as an international trade hub. At the same time, it is ready to cooperate in workforce training, technology application, and investment with Swedish partners.
Earlier the same morning, the Swedish business delegation visited Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT), one of the most modern deep-water ports in northern Vietnam capable of handling large container ships. There, the two sides discussed options for operating direct container shipping routes to Northern Europe.
