On September 6, 2025, during the 2025 Conference on Connecting Import–Export Supply Chains and E-Commerce co-organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Tay Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Long An International Port and Gothenburg Port (Sweden) signed a Friendly Agreement to strengthen logistics cooperation and develop maritime transport.
The conference was attended by Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet, Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, Chairman of the Tay Ninh People’s Committee; Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; and nearly 150 enterprises from 25 countries and territories, including many leading global investors, distribution groups, and logistics companies.
Under the agreement, the two ports will cooperate to boost logistics operations, expand services, and establish direct supply-chain connections between Vietnam, Sweden, and the broader Nordic region, thereby enhancing import–export growth and maritime transport efficiency. Key areas of cooperation include:
• Logistics service development and expansion: encouraging logistics providers from both sides to establish and develop standardized, end-to-end supply chains.
• Trade promotion: sharing information and introducing potential partners in import–export and logistics.
• Social responsibility and sustainability: exchanging ideas and experience in green logistics.
• Digital transformation in logistics: sharing best practices to accelerate port service digitalization.
Representatives of both ports emphasized that the signing aims to pave the way for a direct sea route between Vietnam and Sweden, leveraging Gothenburg’s status as the largest port in Northern Europe and a major European transshipment hub, alongside Long An’s strategic location as the export–import gateway for the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City. This cooperation will help diversify shipping routes, shorten delivery times, and reduce carbon emissions.
The Friendly Agreement between Long An International Port and Gothenburg Port is considered a significant step forward in fostering green, sustainable logistics collaboration between Vietnam and Sweden, opening up prospects for creating a new cargo transshipment hub linking Vietnam with Northern Europe.
