Foreign direct investment in Việt Nam continued to expand strongly during the first nine months of 2026. The National Statistics Office reported that total registered foreign investment, including newly registered capital, additional capital for existing projects, and foreign investors’ capital contributions and share purchases, reached US$50.36 billion by the end of September, up 76.4% year on year. Realised FDI was estimated at US$21.07 billion, an increase of 12.1% and the highest disbursement recorded for the first nine months of any year during the past five years.
Việt Nam licensed 3,108 new foreign-invested projects with total registered capital of US$29.24 billion. The number of new projects increased by 6.2%, while their registered capital was approximately 2.4 times the level recorded in the same period of 2025. Processing and manufacturing remained the largest destination for newly registered capital, receiving US$13.38 billion, or 45.8% of the total. The sector also accounted for the largest share of realised FDI, reinforcing Việt Nam’s role as a regional production base within international manufacturing networks.
Singapore was the largest foreign investor during the period, with registered capital of US$9.26 billion, followed by the Republic of Korea at US$5.7 billion, Luxembourg at US$4.99 billion, Hong Kong at US$3.01 billion, China at US$2.27 billion and Japan at US$1.56 billion. Investors from the Netherlands registered US$438.5 million. The scale of both commitments and actual disbursement suggests that foreign-invested production capacity is continuing to expand despite uncertainty in global trade. For international suppliers and commercial partners, the figures are particularly relevant to demand for industrial inputs, machinery, supporting services, logistics and supplier development around foreign-invested manufacturing clusters.
