As part of his State visit to Denmark, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, accompanied by his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, met with His Majesty King Frederik X and Her Majesty Queen Mary in Copenhagen on October 19.

King Frederik X warmly welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse on their State visit to Denmark, emphasizing that the visit coincided with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1971–2026), marking an important milestone in the development of bilateral friendship and cooperation.

King Frederik X fondly recalled his visits to Vietnam in 2009, 2011 and 2022, sharing his deep affection and cherished memories of the country and its people. He highlighted the special ties between the Danish Royal Family and Vietnam, including the fond memories of his late father, Prince Consort Henrik, of the years he spent living in Hanoi.

Expressing his pleasure at making his first State visit to Denmark, General Secretary and President To Lam extended his sincere appreciation to King Frederik X, Queen Mary and the Danish Royal Family for the warm, gracious and thoughtful reception accorded to him, his spouse and the high-level Vietnamese delegation. He also conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of Vietnam’s senior leaders to the King, Queen and the Danish Royal Family.

General Secretary and President To Lam congratulated Denmark on its development achievements, commending the country’s efforts to build a prosperous, modern society characterized by a high quality of life, leadership in green development and innovation, and a strong social welfare system. He expressed confidence that, under the reign of King Frederik X and through the continued efforts of the Danish Government and people, Denmark would achieve further prosperity and continue to strengthen its important role and standing in Europe and the wider international community.

General Secretary and President To Lam reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently attaches great importance to its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Denmark and wishes to further deepen relations with one of its key partners in the Nordic region and Europe.

He emphasized that Vietnam has always deeply valued Denmark’s invaluable support and assistance since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, particularly in the country’s post-war reconstruction and national development, as well as throughout its Doi Moi (Renewal) process, international integration and ongoing green transition.

The two leaders welcomed the positive development of bilateral relations, particularly since the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation has continued to expand. Danish companies such as LEGO, Pandora and Carlsberg have established a strong presence and expanded their business operations in Vietnam, making positive contributions to socioeconomic development, job creation, technology transfer and the promotion of green and sustainable growth.

General Secretary and President To Lam highlighted King Frederik X’s significant contributions to strengthening Vietnam–Denmark relations. The King’s visit to Vietnam in 2011, when he was Crown Prince, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations, as well as his 2022 visit alongside then-Crown Princess Mary, now Queen of Denmark, leading a Danish business delegation to promote cooperation on the green transition, provided important momentum for bilateral cooperation and helped lay the groundwork for the establishment of the Green Strategic Partnership in 2023.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his deep appreciation for the longstanding affection, commitment and valuable contributions of the King, Queen and Danish Royal Family to bilateral relations.

King Frederik X agreed with General Secretary and President To Lam on the importance of building upon the two countries’ complementary strengths and further expanding cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, energy transition, the green economy, the maritime economy, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his hope that the King would continue to support and encourage Danish businesses and organizations to strengthen cooperation with and investment in Vietnam.

Both sides shared the view that, beyond the tangible benefits of bilateral cooperation, relations between the two countries have also been nurtured by longstanding friendship, mutual trust and close bonds between their peoples across generations.

General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the role of the Danish Royal Family in promoting cultural and artistic exchanges and strengthening people-to-people connections. He expressed his wish that both countries would continue to build upon these valuable traditions, further deepening and consolidating the friendship between Vietnam and Denmark.

On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam cordially invited King Frederik X and Queen Mary to visit Vietnam again in the near future, offering them an opportunity to witness the country’s remarkable transformation and the increasingly comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, together with King Frederik X and Queen Mary, expressed confidence that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark would continue to flourish for the benefit and prosperity of both peoples, while making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and around the world.
