Việt Nam’s total merchandise trade is expected to reach approximately US$1.11 trillion by the end of 2026, which would be the first time the country’s annual foreign trade exceeds the US$1 trillion threshold. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung presented the estimate to the National Assembly on 17 October, projecting year-on-year growth of 30.4%. The figure underlines the continued expansion of Việt Nam’s role in regional manufacturing and international supply chains.
The Government also expects State budget revenue to reach VND3.06 quadrillion, equivalent to about US$118.17 billion, up 14% from the previous year. Tax exemptions, reductions and deferrals are projected at around VND360 trillion. Public debt is expected to remain at approximately 33–34% of GDP by year-end, with government debt at 32–33% and foreign debt at 28–29%. These ratios remain below the statutory ceilings and provide the Government with room to continue public investment and infrastructure development.
For 2027, the Government has set a GDP growth target above 10%, while aiming to keep consumer price inflation below 4.5%. Policy priorities include maintaining macroeconomic stability, improving institutions and regulatory implementation, accelerating economic restructuring, developing strategic infrastructure, and increasing investment in science, technology and digital transformation. For international businesses, the projected trade milestone illustrates the growing scale of Việt Nam’s import demand as well as its export capacity. The continued expansion of trade volumes is particularly relevant for logistics, industrial inputs, transport services and suppliers serving export-oriented manufacturing.
