In the presence of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark, FPT Corporation, a leading Vietnamese technology company operating in 31 countries and territories, and the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in quantum information science and technology.

FPT Partners with One of the Birthplaces of Modern Quantum Physics

The exchange took place at the Vietnam–Denmark Business Forum, held as part of General Secretary and President To Lam’s State visit to Denmark.

The agreement aims to connect Vietnamese scientists with international research institutions, helping strengthen research capabilities, develop highly qualified human resources and promote the application of quantum technologies in Vietnam.

It also opens opportunities for Vietnamese technology companies to develop greater mastery of strategic technologies.

The two sides will explore opportunities for joint research projects, exchanges of doctoral researchers, scientists, lecturers and experts, as well as the organization of academic workshops, information sharing and the identification of promising areas for long-term research collaboration.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Executive Vice President of FPT Corporation and Chief Executive Officer of FPT Software, and Professor Joachim Mathiesen, Director of the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Pham Minh Tuan stated that Vietnam is entering an important phase in developing its quantum technology capabilities. The cooperation with the Niels Bohr Institute reflects both sides’ shared commitment to advancing quantum science research and marks the beginning of a new chapter in scientific cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark.

“We expect this partnership to inspire future generations of researchers and contribute to fostering innovation in both countries,” said the CEO of FPT Software.

For his part, Professor Joachim Mathiesen, Director of the Niels Bohr Institute, highly appreciated FPT’s vision for developing a quantum technology ecosystem in Vietnam.

Both parties aim to connect scientists and explore joint research opportunities in quantum materials, chip components and photonic technologies.

By combining the Niels Bohr Institute’s scientific research strengths with FPT’s capabilities in technology application and commercialization, the partnership is expected to contribute to human resource development and accelerate the practical adoption of quantum technologies in Vietnam.

The Niels Bohr Institute was founded in 1921 by physicist Niels Bohr, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922.

In 2022, Denmark’s Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded DKK 1.5 billion (approximately VND 5.8 trillion) to a quantum computing development programme led by the Niels Bohr Institute.

The programme brings together research teams from Denmark, the United States, the Netherlands and Canada, with the aim of developing Denmark’s first general-purpose quantum computer by 2034.

Quantum technologies are expected to drive breakthroughs in science and technology, creating opportunities for new industries, improving economic competitiveness and strengthening countries’ technological autonomy.

Advances in this field also have the potential to deliver tangible benefits to everyday life through applications in healthcare, energy and information security.

Throughout its history, the Niels Bohr Institute has brought together pioneering scientists, including several who later became Nobel laureates, helping shape the foundations of modern quantum physics.

In recognition of its fundamental contributions, the Institute has been designated by the European Physical Society as a historic site of international importance to the development of physics.

FPT Promotes Investment and Technology Cooperation Between Vietnam and Denmark

As part of the event, FPT participated in the Business Leaders’ Roundtable and discussion sessions at the Vietnam–Denmark Business Forum, contributing to efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in investment, technology development and innovation.

FPT currently works with several major Danish companies, including DSV, ISS and Novo Nordisk. The company has also previously supported Carlsberg in implementing smart manufacturing solutions and other digital transformation initiatives.

In September 2022, FPT opened an office in Kongens Lyngby, north of Copenhagen.

With operations spanning 31 countries and territories, including Denmark, FPT aims to expand international cooperation beyond IT services into research, development and the co-creation of technologies.

Combining Denmark’s strengths in science, technology and industry with Vietnam’s technological capabilities and human resources is expected to create long-term opportunities for cooperation.

Such collaboration will help translate scientific research into practical applications while strengthening Vietnam’s capacity to develop and master strategic technologies.
